Without proper diagonal cross-bracing running from the bottom hinge corner to the top latch corner, the frame slowly racks into a parallelogram until it drags and won't latch.
We build every gate frame with correct cross-bracing, reinforce or replace the gate post (set deep in concrete to resist the load), and hang it on heavy-duty hinges rated for the weight. The difference is a gate that still swings true years later.
